Somebody missed the concept. The M-548, a vehicle designed for arctic use as a 6 ton cargo carrier. Wide tracks and light weight. Fast and goes well over soft mud. Idea. Put fuel pods in the cargo compartment and it can move with the M 113s and tanks. Right. Remember "light weight"? No armor. Aluminum frame, fiberglass body and canvas top. Recall "mines"? When it burned, it really burned. Did not take long to decide to park these beauties and start using 21/2 ton trucks (they did not try to play combat vehicle) and M113s with a fuel bladder inside.
And yes, the vehicle in this picture hit a mine and really was a total loss.
